Referring back to Maggi's comment of no bees = no grub, we have had them extraordinary miserable summer here. June and July were the wettest, dullest and coldest June and July ever recorded. As a result, we have had terribly poor bee activity and I have the worst set of fruit I have ever witnessed. My apple trees have the worst set I have ever seen and blackcurrants, redcurrants, plums, pears (a tree with one pear!) loganberries, raspberries have all cropped very poorly. A friend who keeps bees reported on a neighbour who has acres under apples where the crop is a complete failure and all this due to the fact that bees were not flying at blossom time.
Re Evodia daniellii - I have one in the garden, grown from seed received from N. America about 10 - 15 years ago. It is a lovely tree and I go to admire a huge specimen in Mount Usher gardens, in County Wicklow, each year. It is very beautiful in fruit as well as in flower. Just coming into flower here at the moment.
