It was a friend's birthday today and four of us met for lunch at Harvey's garden plants. They were just setting out their snowdrops in readiness for tomorrow's snowdrop day, so for those of you attending here is a foretaste;

There are no pggy banks in the galanthophile's world,  just massive warthog repositories.

Quite right about the RHS Show.  I have picked up great new snowdrops there but these were ordered in advance and for pickup.   I did however find Foxgrove's big form of Whittallii at one show, it was on display but they had to bring it in the next day.  A good place to meet up with the notables like you, kentgardener and the cognoscenti.

John -I have been after that large Whittallii for ages. You never see it for sale  >:(. It looks just huge on their stand.  First ever saw it at Spring Platt here in Kent.  How did it do for you?

How did it do for you?

Jennie  - One large bulb in 2009 is now 5 very large bulbs and 1 large bulb.  So a good-doer and a brute.

I went to Colesbourne Park today.

It is 10 or 12 years since I went last time, but the place seemed virtually the same.

It was a lovely sunny day.

The ground was a bit muddy in places, I still enjoyed a good walk around.

The sales table was well stocked & not too much of a scrum.

Having only got one weak Green Brush left would be interested to know where that was growing, looks like a very raised position with the wall?

The Green Brush was in the raised bed, just along from where the person is bending over to look at snowdrops in the first picture with the house.

There was paving in a courtyard behind the raised bed, plus paving on a path in front and it is probably south facing with lots of sun.

I'll add the last of the pics I took.

Colesbourne looks lovely as usual... I hope to go next week as it's quite close to us. I always like how the sales tables are near the loos. I assume this is done so that people like me can (and do) secretly buy more snowdrops while those we come with are visiting the loo.

Thanks to John and JohnW for the advice about the RHS show. Train tickets booked for the first day! I'll keep my fingers crossed that something will be before Joint Rock this year and hope to see some of you there.
