I too enjoyed the brief video.

I think it is clear that its maker and narrator, Adrian Higgins, is NOT a Galanthophile.

I don't know him at all, but I'm guessing that he's not a very  experienced presenter, either?

Hi Folks,

I went to Hodsock Priory last week with a couple of friends… The weather was cold & grey. A lot has changed since my last visit. The house is out of bounds, there are two huge marquees to accommodate snowdrop visitors. I only found two galanthus labels. The other winter plants were more interesting. That was true of the sales area too. My camera battery failed (Oh the joys of ’special’ rechargeable batteries!)

I went to Austwick Hall yesterday with my parents… The weather was cold & grey. Its a smaller estate, with about a dozen statues amongst the snowdrops. The house itself isn't 'off limits', only we got the opening hours wrong! Most of the snowdrops don’t seem to have been in for long (less than five years?) but many of them are clearly labelled. Not many other winter plants. About a dozen galanthus varieties for sale. Added bonus: The Gamecock (in the village) does excellent food with a French twist (I had the lapin!) and it has an open fire.

Personal Verdict…. I’ll return to Austwick.

I'm not sure whether snowdrops are an antidote to the economic woes of Europe - I imagine snowdrops have always been beautiful one way or another, and woes around quite often. That is quite a good fun video; I thought the presenter wasn't bad - snowdrops don't call out for the highly polished and it came across well. Is galanthomania really sweeping across Europe? Not a bad thought.

You probably could not see the german tv program with the interview with Rudi Bauer.
Here is the link, that Sven did put in the Belgian forum.

Enjoy!

Thanks Lina.  I enjoyed the video even though I didn't understand most of it.

I did manage to pick up on 'Gala' and 'Englander' and some of what Alan Street was saying under the translation.

I do believe I saw Martina at Rudi Bauer's stall and one or two other faces seemed familiar.

Oh! Was that a hat? I thought he'd just grabbed a passing kitten and stuffed it on his head because of the cold! ::) ;)

I'm sure he will - he said he'd been on German TV, but I was unprepared for the hat! :)

In this country we'll grab any hapless creature as a hat or scarf.
