unindentified ZINNIA
« on: September 25, 2012, 06:08:47 PM »
Hi,
Can anybody help in identifying this ZINNIA? ( It looks like a Zinnia... )
It grew from  seed 2 years ago in one of my containers but I don't know where it came from. Probably mixed with something I've planted there.
Many thanks

It could be Tithonia.

The foliage type is pure Zinnia, though, is it not?
I spotted the yellow and orange flowers in the  background of your Tropaeolum photos, J-P, and wondered what they were.

Hi Maggi,
On the Tropaeolum photos there are 2 ZINNIAS on a hanging basket ( white flowers and yellow flowers ) The Tropaeolum has invaded everything. In the background is a climbing plant ( which is also invaded...): SENECIO" confusus ". It also has a very complicated botanical name ( I don't remember, but I could try to find ). It produces lots of orange daisy-like flowers from August onwards ( and is not frost hardy ). The plant blooms really freely outside in full sun. Seeds are set , but the plant is very easily reproduced by cuttings. This is one of my favourites.

It looks more or less like Zinnia multiflora which I found recently in the Botanical Garden of Bochum - but I'm not sure if there are other similar species of the Genus.

Thank you Gerd! I'll keep it as a possible identification. Maybe the internet can confirm this? I'll search for this.
