One of the charms of North Green Snowdrops is the way in which certain varieties which were discovered at NGS will appear in the catalogue, then disappear for three, four, maybe five years, then magically reappear. Its a bit like that poem The Land of Beyond ( www.poetryloverspage.com/poets/service/land_of_beyond.html). This year, for example, Savill Gold is back. Now there's a snowdrop that is a challenge to cultivate!

I went down to the Sacred Store, a.k.a. the Avon Bulbs website, which confidently asserts "They will clump up in time". Wow!! With faith like that, the writer should be Archbishop of Canterbury! However, five years ago the Avon stand at the February RHS Show had a display of ...Longnor Hall - a super double!(Ding Dong won't mind this story - I drive him crazy asking after it.) Longnor Hall double inhabits the Land of Beyond. "In time" is a very long time. Will I live to see it? Doubtful - I haven't even passed the Burning Bush yet. Heigh-ho.

Thick snow and minus 2 outside - must be time for snowdrop crackpots to assemble for the Midwinter Ice ritual at Myddleton House. See you there.

Not for another week Steve....don't turn up tomorrow!

I got the North Green catalogue out of the blue this year - never got one last year.  Has anyone ever seen a photo or even better the plant 'Long Wasp'?

Brian - do you need a scan of the list as I could try to scan it and send it to you?

I tried in 3 shops today to get the Country Life magazine to no avail.  If anyone scans it could I have a copy please?

Do you mean the March issue, Jennie? Couldn't find it here yet either.

If any forumist could supply a scanned copy of the "North Green Snowdrop" catalogue to me, I'd greatly appreciate it. Mostly for dreaming!

Also, are the galanthus article(s) in Country LifeCountry Living, or both? What exact dates and issues, please? We have a magazine store in Seattle that gets both from the UK but I have to tell them the exact title and issue for them to save me a copy.

It's been in the mid 20sF every night here for over 12 days now, with no snow, of course. All my plants are in the garage until the freeze passes - maybe by next Tuesday.

Thanks,
Jim

Not sure which month it is Maggie ???  Ding Dong mentioned an article on yellow snowdrops in Country Life - not sure if it would be Feb or March?

Hi Jim

I have the "Country Living" magazine from February 2013 - this has a 5 page article on Matt's snowdrop day (various forum members can be spotted in pictures - most obvious to me are Mark and Emma  ;D )

Ding Dong mentioned about an article on yellow snowdrops, that I have not seen, but I guess it should be in the January 2013 issue of "Country Life" magazine by the sounds of it:

Also meant to say, there is a good article on yellow snowdrops in this weeks Country Life magazine! It's by Mark Griffiths

Well, had a look in our local newsagents for it, and apparently it is a weekly magazine ,so we would need to know which week the article was in

Jennie & Maggie - the article was in Country Life magazine, which is weekly - it was in the issue dated 9th January (had a picture of 2 Irish Terriers on the front). As it is published weekly, that issue would have been taken off sale now. I will take it to work on Monday and (hopefully) get someone to scan it for me!!! Watch this space :) ;)

Thanks Maxine, both for the clarification and the hope of a scan.

Very confusing for us simple folks to have such similarly named mags, one monthly and one weekly - too much information for a semi-frozen brain to handle.

Galanthus Greenfinch is lovely - My mind is picturing how robust 'Galanthus Bullfinch' could look.   :D  lol
