Crocus December 2012

Hello.
C.sativus in December is probably a bit unusual (probably planted a little late). Unfortunately somewhat thin flowers.
In C.speciosus `Albus` even come until small peaks.
The plants (C.sativus, speciosus) are cool in the stairwell.
Outside suddenly are more than 30cm snow!

Yes - thats realy unusual- but better than frost whitout snow.

Today third flower on Crocus wattiorum and some sunshine to make pictures.
It seems there was an insect who likes the flowers to .

Another one with black anthers was flowering today ....Crocus hyemalis .

That is very nice to see C. hyemalis ans C. wattiorum from Belgium! Both are very sensitive for hardy winter conditions!!

A very good form with very nice anthers Ibrahim . Such species flower here at the beginning of january. I think I lost mine due the bad winter of 2011/2012 ...And even they where not so attractive as yours it is stil sad.
Like al the species with the black anthers ...

Here started real winter and next week is offered temperature dropping to minus 23 C. Garden is covered by snow, so only problem can be from rodents because soil still is not frozen. In greenhouse still few crocuses are blooming - generally laevigatus, melantherus, boryi and some others. This spring I collected some interesting pallasii. Few days ago I was pleasantly surprised seeing one bud coming up and for coming frost I carefully took it out and forced to bloom on my bathrooms window-sill. Quite nice although very late blooming. Some features are very special.

After two cold weeks with minimum temperature -14°C here full in flower:

For me Crocus season finished. Today covered my greenhouse beds for winter. Sti8ll C.melantherus, laevigatus, caspius and few others had flowers, but temperature for more than week are around minus 5 C and for coming nights is offered dropping gradually to minus 15 and even minus 25 C next week.

this looks like Crocus ochroleucus.
