I really cannot tell why it has flowered at this time but from my records as i said in my posting it has flowered over a long period in the past but the most flowers appear usually in March. In the wild of course in early may.

The rest of my plants of this species are just coming through the top dressing.

I still have a couple of Crocus pulchellus buds in the garden.  No hope of them ever opening.  It starts flowering about mid September and just keeps going.

Crocus pelistericus in flower today

Its previous earliest flowering was 17th January and its latest 15th April.

Great to see these Crocus flowers - it fairly cheers me up in the darkness
 The ones we have with flowers, mostly Crocus laevigatus, are not encouraged to open in the low light cold conditions we are currently experiencing - the buds give up after two or three weeks waiting for some warmth and wither with out ever opening .

Nice to see Crocus pelistericus flowering this early -  by coincidence I was just sorting through my picture files and was viewing this picture taken on 4th April - something to look forward to.

Very deep colour Tony. Is it possible that this is due to flowering early i.e. not much light around. Mine (from you Thanks) flowered in February last year and are not above ground yet

Nearly 50cm snow are thawed and quite a few speciosus come to light -crooked but ...
These little flowers are soo strong!

Very lovely plants Ashley ! Among my favorites , so never mind about the pictures. They are early to , here they are stil not above the soil ....I hope to enjoy two times .... now with your pictures and later with my own plants....

Thanks Kris.  Yes they're a bit earlier than usual because the weather here has been mild for several weeks now. 
The main problem is low light levels.  For example Romulea tempskyana flowers waited 3 weeks for enough sunshine and warmth, and are now going over without having opened at all.

They are Janis, unusually early even here. 
When they began to emerge several weeks ago I brought them under glass for protection from slugs and weather.  However for pollination they may need to come into the warmth of the house.
