Like many of us I expect, I have stored rainwater for use in the garden. Over the years my 1st barrel shaped one (is it really over 45 years old?) must have been frozen many times but is still in use, and only just cracking round the rim. Others that have been added over the years are mostly a hard "recycled" plastic, although the last bought in the panic earlier this year is soft-feel virgin plastic. I am thinking to change over to a more sophisticated "water harvesting" sustem next year and was wondering about these recycled 1000l water cubes on pallets.
Has anyone used these over a period. How stable are they to uv light and do they go brittle quickly? I am assuming they would need to be protected from direct sunlight and maybe light in general, and would not be happy with freezing so would need insulation.
I recently cleared out an old garage which contained several empty white plastic 5 gallon drums and was surprised that they were still quite good after being stored away from direct light for ~30 years.
